John Boucher (William Houston)
John Boucher is a man driven mad by the strike. He's a coward who is reluctant to join the strike in the first place for fear his six children and sick wife will starve. He is forced into it anyway. This causes him to lament to Higgins, "You've no more pity for a man than a pack of hungry wolves." He represents the portion of the working class that does not have the backbone and spirit to fight in the industrial jungle. He is brought into the dust by the tyranny of the masters and union alike.
