Fanny Thornton (Jo Joyner)
Fanny is Mr. Thornton's spoiled, selfish sister. She does not remember, as her brother and mother, much of poverty and hardship. She's arrogant about their wealth although she's done nothing to acquire it. Her utter lack of common sense makes it all the more irritating when she urges John to participate in the speculation and it ends up being successful. Her husband, Watson, is a risky speculator who tries to get Mr. Thornton to join him. He refuses on principle and ends up losing everything. She rubs it in his face even though she has no idea what she's talking about.
